Saturday 20th June – bike ***** - Felixstowe to Levington Marina – sunny.

Haven’t been out on the bikes for a few days so were keen to get out on them today especially as we woke to another sunny day. Being a weekend we decided to head out early for breakfast to avoid the crowds, so with weetabix and fruit plus a flask packed we left home at 6.30, defiantly the best time of the day. Found a new footpath by Felixstowe Academy coming out at Blofield lane and along the lovely tree lined path, again no deer but we spotted two hares. Then down to the River Orwell by Loompit Lake and the tide was very low. Loads of wagtails, geese and jumping trout as we headed to the marina and it had been very quiet with very few people about:) The marina BBQ seat was in the shade so we carried onto the seat by my windsurfing spot. We enjoyed our breakfast being entertained by noisy Oyster Catchers, Egrets and Black Headed Gulls feeding in the mud. There was a large dredgers working at Felixstowe docks, people fishing for bass and a water skier too! Time to head for home via Trimle
y Marshes in search of the Spoonbill that has been spotted there! We stopped to speak to a birdwatcher with a scope who said the Spoonbill was not about today and sadly the Avocets have failed to nest this year. With most of the hides on the reserve still closed we stop at the only one still open, the first one as you near the marshes with it’s high position it gives you nice views and Mag soon spots a couple of hare, then a Marsh Harrier takes to the air and we watch a large herd of mixed cows grazing all with calf's and a huge black bull too:) We then see two deer on the track away from the reserve, the first for some time! Then we carry on home, another great bike ride being out for three hours 30 minutes and I have plenty of time to do my exercises in the sunny, warm back garden and see if the wind picks up enough to go windsurfing?
